6. The NUCLEAR BOMB - Ted's Homemade Mange Cure / Remedy

I had all my ingredients, but there's still the question of bathing your dog.  What I did was bathe Sarge once a week.  But this was no regular ass bath!  What you need to do is do Ted's Mange Bath (Which I now call Mange Armageddon Bath).  This was something I had come across online and decided to try... it worked as advertised. What is does is gets deep down into the skin and delivers a mild insecticide to any damn creature who plays like they want to hide on the surface of my dog. Now the insectide is VERY VERY mild compared to say, roach spray.. but to a creature as small as a mite, this insectide is the equivalent of nuclear armageddon.   This is how I did it..

(I had to buy an e-collar for dog's neck after this, because my dog tends to want to lick off the substance. You don't want yours doing that. This isnt harmful to your dogs skin, but is probably harmful to the belly.)

What you want to do is buy a bottle of HYDROGEN PEROXIDE.  The bottle avalable at your local drugstore is perfect.  These bottles are usually 16oz and  3% hydrogen peroxide.

Borax: The Dog Mange BOMB
You also want to buy some detergent-like substance called BORAX. I found this at my local supermarket. The brand was "20 Mule Team"  For $5.00, I got a big ass box which was the only size they were selling anyway. You won't need to use too much of this, you can use the rest to clean your house and laundry, supposedly it is some sort of miracle product for these uses.

Now you want to find a large empty bottle because that Hydrogren Peroxide needs to be diluted from 3% to 1%.

1) Fill the bottle with 32 oz of water.
2) Pour the whole 16 oz bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide into the bottle of water.
3) Add about 1 CUP of BORAX (you've added enough borax when you see that the borax is no longer being absorbed by the water and just floats and/or settles. In other words, KEEP ADDING BORAX UNTIL IT WILL NOT MIX ANYMORE, somewhere around 1 cup should suffice.)

Throw your dog in the bath. Shampoo and wash as usual. When done with the bath, keep dog in tub and  dry it lightly leaving dog still damp but not soaking wet.  It is now that you want to pour the 48 ounces of solution on your dog. Pour it over neck and back area. Pour a little, then massage it in well. Pour more and do the same. Make sure to cover your dog's whole body. Do this until the entire bottle is done. Don't worry, it is painless to your dog and will not burn or irritate any open sores. Try not to get this into dog's eyes. (I advise you to use your hand to apply solution to the head area and not pour the mixture directly onto your dogs head.)

NEXT STEP; DO NOT DRY YOUR DOG.
Don't touch your dog with any towel or anything like that.  The solution has to naturally dry on your dog. The Peroxide will help it dry quick.

This will dry out the skin of your dog, I've seen some people say they've put some sort of lubricant on their dog after this -- I didn't. The point of this IS to dry the dog's skin, so don't cry for feel sorry for Fido when you do this, he's not in any discomfort and will thank you later wth a big lick on your face, trust me.

Whats happening is:
borax = mild insectide
peroxide = drying agent/penetrant

The 32oz of water diluted the peroxide to safe levels and now the solution will seep DEEPLY into the skin carrying the borax with it.  The mites that are burrowed into the skin will get a rude f&%king awakening and all the active eggs on the surface off the skin will be dried out.

You want to give your dog this bath once a week, you will only need to do this 2-3 times, and you should start to see improvement after the 2nd time.
---
Now I have what I need to rebuild Sarge (my dog) INTERNALLY and the Neem oil and Ted's mange bath to wreck mites EXTERNALLY. We should be set.

  1. I have the same experience of losing my 1st Mini Pin at the vet. Now my Second Min pin is diagnosed with Demodex Mange after 3 months being treated for stupid allergies and with all wrong medication.. Finally a 3rd vet diagnosed its Demodex Mange. I did the dip once. Then I was doing research on the internet found its all pesticide. I found your blog. The following week I bathe him and applied neem oil the way you mentioned. Earlier it was just few spots now its spread all over he itches a lot and at times bleed. Sometimes he is ok. But what I see is now its spread all over wherein earlier it was only near eyes, neck and forehead.
I want to give him The Borax bath. But is it safe as I have read it has caused lot of reactions on few dogs. As mine is Mini Pin a small dog I do not want to take risk as he was already on wrong medicines. I am very confused as I do not want any like of pesticide on him. Kindly guide me what route to take to treat him. Its been 3 weeks now and i see it increased and spread all over.

    1. Well first I want to say that i'm sorry to hear aobut whats going on with your dog. I know it's troubling to see your dog in such condition, because TRUST ME, I've been through it. I really don't know how to advise you if you said your dog got WORSE you applied neem to it. Since the neem is really harmlesss to the dog and very dangerous to the mites, I find this strange. Did you see ANY improvment at all when you used the neem?

I would not use Borax in this situation. Instead I'd advise to you follow your vet's directionss and use that medication for a while and see if it works.

I'm interested in your progress, so please keep me updated with whats going on there.

    2. Regarding your comment about pesticides, you have to keep in mind that the mites are insects. The prescribed medicins are forumlated to be gentle to deal with these microscopic pests. If you want to be on the safe side, supplement your dog with half a spoon of apple cider vinegar in its water and/or garlic tabs for dogs. This will help to make your dog toxic to mites from the inside and reduce biting and such, but it won't be strong enough to eradicate the problem.

    4. Neem probably isn't the best idea for open sores or broken skin. Perhaps that's why the dogs skin got worse, it irritated it. Some dogs may have an allergy to it, as with people. Though I'm generally all for neem, it sounds like maybe the skin was just too sensitive for it.

    5. Another way to apply the solution after the bath and borax solution is to use a small syringe and put on the dog for in between baths..

  2. Yes I had seen a little improvement i. e one of the major spot had a little hair growth. But contradictory to that he has developed all over the body. The third vet who did diagnose it as Demodex Mange had given me Ectodex Amitraz Dip. He had advised me not to bathe him. But all the sites I have studied says to keep him clean. In-fact I bathe him with Oatmeal shampoo wherein I have added neem to it too.. Finally yesterday I dipped him with Amitraz which I know he does not enjoy at all and after that he stretches a lot. He has anxiety and stress problem too. So I now take him wherever I go. I was very keen on borax bath. But when I saw few opposed it I am very apprehensive. I cannot afford to loose him. I also have read these dips will make them weak. I am sooo confused. After I read your blog. I do give him ACV, FISH OIL, one day i gave him garlic capsule and the Echinaea. But that night I felt he had heavy breathing. I way I lost my MURPHY-1, I am very protective about Murphy -2. Even in midnight I wake up to see if he is ok. Murphy -2 is totally spoil t. He does not eat easily. He is very fussy. I have always given him Cooked chicken and rice. He likes only drumsticks. With all this I am kind of struck. what do you think is the best for me to do now???? please guide.

    1. Hi. The amitraz and anything else the vet prescribes can and does kill dogs...read the nasty side effects, i would never subject my dog to any of these poisons! But then we also avoid all pharm meds unless absolutely necessary! I am the owner of a german sheperd retriever mix who developed the symtoms some 5 years ago, misdiagnosed as food allergies though he very obviously is allergic to flea bites which means one bite is like 30 and no matter what meds you put on them, if theyre in the yard, theyll bite your dog or cat before they jump off and die. Anyway i have tried EVERYTHING ( except the dips/internal poisons) including steroids which make the situation worse because they weaken the dogs immune system and a weak immune system directly corrolates to mite investations. That said, after weeks of research, we are trying the borax rinse, done PROPERLY this should have zero ill effects on your dog. It is not a toxic poison like the dips and its a topical solution that only penetrates the upper epidermal layers, not passing into the blood stream. Hence any worry of your dog getting sick, muzzle or collar them after the rinse! They are miserable as is, my poor dog has suffered at the hands of vets...no more. I started the rinse a few weeks ago but with christmas and company couldnt be regular. Some times he would become inflamed and bumpy in the bald bla k skin areas and itch more for a bit, i believe its because we aggravated the little buggers!!! I find when i bathe him first in his hypoallergenic puppy/kitten shampoo with his exfoliating bath mitt, this seems to help the mix penetrate and he doesnt seem to flare up that way,the good gentle scrubbing is probablyhelping destroy the mites also.
Your dog is suffering and after everything we've been through with Scooby, as well as the dozens of other animals we have rescued and rehomed after getting them healthy, i feel confident this mixture of DILUTED PEROXIDE (WHICH IS AFTERALL USED FOR CLEANING WOUNDS!!! ) and LAUNDRY SOAP will NOT kill your dog! Dont let him eat it!!!!
The first time i used it on scooby he happened to have a 3 inch raw spot and within just a cpl of hours it was healed GONE...i cant explain it. It just worked. Another thing i discovered is that if your dog or cat is suffering itchy gunky ears, you must put ear mite drops in them and it instantly kills thosr which gives the pet much relief! In my research for mite remendies i also discovered a mix of listerine mouthwash, water, baby oil, 2oz of EACH mixed in a squirt bottle, helps relieve itching and red spots too so im now doing the borax rinse, and then the spray after he is completely dry. This spray immediately healed his itchy crusty ears when applied by fingertip to the irritated skin of his ear flaps, after the ear mite drops were applied. It wasnt just the baby oil softening them, we had moisturized them before, it was the combo mix of listerene, baby oil and water that made his ears silky and no more crust!
We are determined by the end of January to heal our poor doggie completely with these alternative therapies because too many people in the same situation have found serious relief!!! Any ill effects are truly linked to misuse, not following directions or by allowing the already weakened dog eat the mixture.... im trying it all again because i wasnt able to be consistent the first few weeks but also, the way it healed the raw spot and the growth of new hair in the first efforts lets me know it works! Good luck to everyone with their efforts! Remember to dilute the peroxide for less drying effect and also, research repkacing the peroxide with vinegar, many ppl have said thiscworks the same and does not ‘bleach' the darker haired dogs, fur, :-)

    4. FYI Meant and Rice are VERY abd to give ur dog, and urself, if u suffer from any mite problems. At all costs u must avoid Grains, Meat(as much as u can), and all healthy sugars(and ofc the bad), also the ones found in fruits, rice etc, even potatoes will help feed them! This is such an understated area while abttling with mites that no one knows or thinks abiout, and certainly no vets will tell u this. This is my own research, and my own and dogs xperience through 3 yrs now. As soon as i start to eat anything with sugar in, both gd and bad, anything with MILK (DONT TOUCH AYTHING WITH LACTOSE!), or too much meat and fruit = mites 'wake up' and i can certainly feel them inside me crawling around in the evening and all night. Preferably go on and ALL GREEN VEGI diet while fighting this, and keep ur body as alkaline as posible!!! Mites and other parasites that we all have, as well as things like cancer cells, inflamation from arthritis and many many other things, cant survive or strive in an alkaline environment!!!

  4. I have treated a friends dog that had Mange with 3.5% H2o2 (hydrogen peroxide) solution and it works great. You can purchase it at any drugstore. After a few applications hair starts growing and you can see the change. Spray 3.5% H2o2 and brush your dog gently as many times as possible, this brushing will introduce the solution into the porous. Let the solution dry out by itself, do not use a towel to dry. It will NOT harm your dog, it will HELP your dog feel better. Continue applications until Mange is eradicate, once eradicate do it once a week or once every two weeks. One thing you have to do at the same time you are treating your dog with 3.5% H2o2 is to spray the area where he roams, specially were he sleeps or rest for prolonged periods of time. If you have to spray the house or clean the house with 3.5% H2o2 do it. If he goes outsied the house and has a favorite place do spray there too. This will sterilize the area were possible focus of mange eggs nest are, 3.5% H2o2 will oxidize the mange eggs, it will not damage your furniture, plants or grass either. I did not use Borax because the 3.5% H2o2 is sufficient, 3.5% H2o2 kills, bacteria, virus, parasites and fungi. Hope this information helps.

    3. Peroxide DOES NOT kill mites, its not aninsecticide. Borax is. I have been treating my dog, shepward mix, and after the first treatment he stopped chewing on himself. I didn't doa whole lot of research on mange and wasn't really sure if he had it but now I am, and this works like a charm . I thank you all for the additional info like putting mineral oil in the eyes before applying near the eyes I was afraid but have applyed without the oil and was fine I got some in my eyes too from him shaking. So for those of you that are not sure, it doesn't matter the make or model of your dog, follow the directions and you will not be sorry, Also for those of you that asked if it can look worse before it gets better the answer is yes, this gets the mites all riled up cause you are eradicating them. Thanks

    5. Hydrogen Peroxide is NOT enought to KILL the mites 'permanently'. Youve simply seen an improvement overall because of better heatlt and immune system, and because it heals and disinfects the skin. They willd ef still be there, IF they were on the stage where theyve burrowed under the skin, which happes after a while. Then it becomes almost imposible to get rid of, and u need something else to get under that top layer, like Borax! Hydrogen Peroxide alone did nothing for my dog who has had it for 3 yrs now, so pls dont spread untrue facts, just because YOU were lucky to be symtom free now :)

  6. My dog (a female Pit) and I have been dealing with this for about a year now. It started when she started having allergic reactions to commercial dog food (from the cheap to the organic to the prescribed). Changing her diet to a beef / unseasoned vegetable meat loaf helped tremendously but I just couldn't get her skin to clear up well enough.

My mom found this cocktail online and we've bathed my dog twice now, followed by a good soaking in Peroxide and Borax. She's scratching less and I see a lot of dead skin come off when I use a grooming blade on her. Plus her skin is already back to the strawberry cream color it was before. She's happier and sleeps through the night again.

also the amount of borax to use changes from website to website...

But this website has a lot more... again will this be toxic for the dog?

And we do this bath once a week? is that enough? should I also do the lime sulfur dip? she licks this one too...

We tried the vet prescribed mange pills, allergy testing and shots, coming off commercial good, eating only the Kangaroo and Red Lentils or Herring and Sweet Potatoes kibble. We've tried prednisone and antibiotics when the scratching resulted in raw, pus covered, inflamed skin. I have shampooed with Ketochlor and given prescribed Ketoconazole. We have tried diluted apple cider vinegar spray on his coat and adding Brewer's yeast, olive oil and garlic tablets to his food. Antihistamines don't help, but Valerian and melatonin help on ck him out so he gets rest. We are both too miserable and grossed out to cuddle. I am ready to try this!

    1. Leave it on after it dries. Bath the dog regularly first, then rinse with mixture slowly rubbing it in with your hands to affected areas, let her dry... i found a mix that is equal parts listerene, water, baby oil ( google that for mange, it should come up) so im doing borax rinse, let it dry, spray mist the areas w the listerene water baby oil mix, heals raw spots quickly!!! Weird but true :-) good luck!!! We plan to be mange free by end of january!!

  16. I cannot thank you enough. I had been battling skin allergies for years, my dog just seemed to get worse, if it was not one disease then it would be another, poor thing lived on antibiotics while the other one was completely healthy.

I tried the borax treatment and my dog is better by week two! I can't believe the results. Dog had itch bumps with sometimes pus, the dog would be FULL of dandruff like scabies, and the dog would NOT stop itching!! His ears were miserable, I tried coconut oil which relieved him a lot but never cured him.

He had purple paws (maltese!!!) and purple ears from so much goo. That went away with the coconut oil but the dog would NOT stop scratching!!

borax has made his skin nice and pink all over again, most of his bumps are at skin level now, and his horrible hotspot that he kept scratching with his rear foot is nicely back to skin level and healing once again! THANK YOU SO MUCH

  17. CEDAR OIL MADE THE PROBLEM WORSE AND IRRITATED THE HECK OUT OF MY POOR DOG! BORAX, HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AND WATER IS THE BEST WAY TO GO! It was interesting that the guy that sold us Dr. Ben's product wouldn't except returns even when the product didn't work...The best remedy in the world is the Borax laundry detergent booster, hydrogen peroxide and water....we would bathe the dog every 5 days with an oatmeal medicated moisturizing shampoo and then apply the Borax mixture over her wet coat making sure that all the little folds, (under her armpits, under her chin, etc.), were soaked with the solution and applied with a washcloth. You can't dry the animal off which means you might want to make the room as warm as possible for her/him. They have to air dry but they are allowed to shake so it does speed up the drying process. The solution kills the mites and the hydrogen peroxide soothes any skin infection, lesions. After the dog was dry we would apply a tea tree gel which is a natural skin moisturizer and skin antiseptic to the areas where she was really bare...she would close her eyes in relief as we rubbed it in. This really provided relief from the itching too, almost immediately. If you do the full bath once a week and then once or twice a week apply the bad mangey areas with a washcloth and the Borax solution, you'll see results within the first few days. Also it is key that you feed your dog the best food, fish oil, avocados, sardines, organic coconut oil (which looks like vegetable shortening) in order to keep their skin in shape as well as boost their immune system which is usually the main reason for the mite attack in the first place. Also keep the house vacuumed well and all the dog bedding washed so they don't get reinfected while they are being treated. BE diligent about this regime for about 6 weeks and it will get better. It really is the cheapest and most effective way to cure mange. Our poor, now 6 month old dog was treated with toxic dips, Ivermectin, which almost killed her, literally, and it came back....with a vengence. We did the Borax thing and all is great and she looks and finally feels better. I would check with your vet after about six weeks of this treatment and you feel the condition is cured. They will do a skin scraping and make sure the mites are under control. If they feel there are still too many of those little buggers it is in your best interest to treat the animal for maybe another week or so until you get a good normal skin scraping and then watch them and keep them on good food!

    Remedy mixture:
2 1/2 cups of warm water
    3/4 cup of Hydrogen Peroxide
5 tablespoons of Borax Laundry Detergent Booster

You can buy the Tea tree oil gel at a natural foods store.

  19. I know of a dog that was scraped for demodex, but none were found. The symptoms show similar to it tho. My suggestion was all natural supplements...Taste of the Wild "Pacific stream formula", Fish oil 1000mg/300mg omega, dietary supplement(four paws brewer's yeast with garlic) promotes healthy skin/coat boost's immune system, and regular bathing...Boosting the immune system is the key...demodex is on all dog's, but if the dog has a downed immune system the mite will take over....Stress and anxiety can be a cause to take over too. Keep the dogs healthy and happy is a key.

  22. Ted, I want to thank you so much for posting this blog. We have been battling mange on our dog, Coco, since last April. We recognized it because our older dog had it many years ago but it cleared itself up. We waited for cocos to go away, but it didn't. The vet wanted me to pay thousands for weekly visits and dips. We passed and tried several products for sale at pet smart and then the feed store, Stuff intended for cattle, but nothing worked. The antibiotics and anti fungal meds and medicated shampoos from the vet ran out right when it really exploded all over her body, and face!
Yesterday I used medicated shampoo to bathe her, then the peroxide and borax solution and we saw an instant improvement!! Today is been oil day. We have been unable to locate straight up mineral oil so will mix with baby oil (mineral oil with fragrance) we have very high hopes as it seems to VE working and my dog is on the mend after only one day! Tried putting virgin coconut oil on it, but he won't sit still for me to put it around his eyes. Even tried giving him some to lick cause he loves it, while putting it around his eyes, but he's too quick. I'd love to know if the peroxide, borax, water solution can be sprayed on his face safely.

    2. Vaseline around the eyes works like a charm by suffocation. just rub it in good.Has been used on chickens for leg mites for eons. with Chickens we do it every week to make sure the eggs that hatch get killed before they can breed. So usually once a week for 3 weeks. Also works for people with eye lid mites that people think they have blepharitis or dry eyes but usually demodex mites. Yuck ! Google it crusty eyes in the morning etc. But you need to rub it in so it gets to the skin. Good Luck !

    3. Vaseline or chap stick is what i used around the eyes, and for dogs that do not tolerate the borax and peroxide rinse. this stuff works great also.

  24. Hi there, my 5 year old German shepherd and pitbull mix has very bad mange. Her skin is patchy and after months of injections at the vet, no relief. I bought the borax and the peroxide, however, could only the Hydrogen peroxide solution 6%. How do I dilute it as the above receipes refer to 3% peroxide. Regards Clinton

    1. Hi, Try first mixing HALF the bottle of peroxide with an equal part of water. That should dilute it by half. Then you can follow the directions as usual. Hope this helps.

    1. 2 cups of peroxide sounds like way too much. Peroxide can actually be used to induce vomiting, so that might be what happened. And peroxide is sold in different strengths. I am hoping everyone is getting the 1% or 3%. In health food stores, you can buy it in a 30% strength. Be sure to check your H2O2 %'s!

  29. Tried it on my boy Bismarck as his skin was a red mess. (The Borax, Hydrogen Peroxide and H20 mix). Amazing and almost instantaneous results. Screw Ivermectin and the vets who poison our dogs with it! For a $3.99 box of "20 Mule Team Borax" and a .99 cent-16 oz. bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide...I ended my Dog's annoying irritation and said "NO!" to poisoning him with that prescription crap. Thanks for the information! Gary

Moved into new place and now my baby is suffering from previous tenants neglect! We had orkin out and said red mites but I see little smaller then a grain of rice black bugs jumping off his coat now! He has bumps all over his skin too and can't stop the itch! I hope this works!

  31. Someone dropped off two red nosed hound small dogs off at the lake here covered in mange, I covered them in burnt motor oil and tied them next to a sand pile..left it on them about a week, they grew all hair back and were beautiful pups so I gave them away!

  33. I have to add to the list of relieved dogs after using Ted's formula. 5 year old APBT, She has always had big allergic flare ups with the Wandering jew in the yard.. looked like a bad case of poison oak. After the flareup it would usually go away but this one was really bad and I think the Demodex snowballed and I have tried so many things that did not work. She was losing hair in a lot of little spots here and there, chewing at her tail and feet, itching. All along I thought it was here allergies to the plant... to food... I changed here from TOTW food to Acana hoping that would help but there was no difference. Finally I knew there was another factor and tried this. INSTANT RELIEF!!!! This being a mix of allergies in the onset before the mange had stumped a couple of vets and I am so glad I finally got it figured out. Now if I could only keep the Wandering Jew from growing back!

Again... red itchy skin much better after one night, instant relief from the incessant scratching and in three days her skin is 99% its normal healthy color and now I just have to wait for some of the raised bumps to go down. Come to think of it, even when she has been normal, she always had a bald spot on the top of her tail in the middle that I could never explain. Now I am hopeful that I can do away with that as well!

  34. Nope but you MUST dilute tea tree oil as it can be toxic to dogs in high doses. Two drops of tea tree oil to about two tablespoons of coconut oil or half a cup of olive oil should make it safe for most dogs. You should almost always use tea tree oil with a carrier oil such as coconut, or olive oil as it can irritate skin in humans, and be toxic in high doses to animals. You should never use tea tree oil on a cat as it can be toxic even if diluted.

    1. Only use .1 % tea tree oil then dilute it. DO NOT USE PURE TEE TREE OR ANYTHING ABOVE .1!!

  37. Hello, thank you for your recipe of borax & peroxide. I have one suggestion for all owners of Shepherds. Before bathing and treating them, SHAVE THEM!!!! as they have a triple coat that can hinder solution from reaching skin, and you. It will make the whole process much easier on yourself.

  39. Hi, I have applied the borax solution once a few days ago and as predicted my dog is worse. I am unsure how to apply the oil without that making a mess of my couch and anywhere else my dog likes to sleep. Suggestions would be helpful. Also, do I have to wait the full week or could I do a spot treatment to the affected areas in between?

    1. You have to remember that the mange will flare up worse after using the borax because the mites are dying. Best idea is to keep your dog isolated somewhere that he or she is not going to get oil or Borax all over the place. While treating my dog has kennel bound except to go to the bathroom and for a walk

  40. I have been using the borax peroxide solution for about 2 weeks now. My dog has come Leaps and Bounds she has hair regrowth her skin is turning back to a nice pink and said of a bright red. We've been using antibiotics as well for secondary skin infections and yeast infections she is 5 months old with a severe case of Demodex mange she's a pitbull mix. We've been dealing with this for about 3 months it's really hard she has to wear a cone 24 7 so she doesn't bite or chew. My only issue is she stop itching her back and her face for the most part but chewing on her legs has gotten worse she has chewed them so badly that it hurts for her to walk. I do believe that this stuff works very well and I've seen really good results but it's not an overnight miracle it takes dedication to your pet your family member to keep up with the treatments wash all of their stuff daily wash them in the borax peroxide solution twice a week.. they're betting color everything else daily. I have high hopes for this because nothing else has worked none of the dips none of the stuff you can get off of line or any of the stuff that you got at the vet's office has worked for her. This is kind of our last resort so I hope that if I have any questions I'm able to contact you to see if you could give me some more insight on the recovery of demodectic mange

  42. My little Pixie gets itchy every summer /fall. We have used this for several years and it always works. Have shared with friends too. Vet says no mange but what do they know. I think the mites get stirred up maybe because we go on vacation and she stresses when we're gone
Ps. All dogs who fed on their mothers have mites.

  43. When I have Blue the bath earlier tonight I didn't do by his eyes. I was unsure if I should or not use the hydro/borax that close...is it safe? Is a treatment once a week effective enough and should I do a spot treatment tomorrow? What else should I be applying to their coats in between treatments? I'm worried I missed a spot and this won't be effective. Would Apple cider vinegar/water be ok around the eye area. Please help

  44. Trying on my mini dachshund , she's a rescue dog . She had a very terrible case of demodectic mange right after I got her. Lost all hair pus coming from her sores , my vet wanted me to put her down after a year and several hundred $$ worth of treatment . I finally got it under control with some homeopathic shampoos and sprays but it took a year to clear. That was 3 yrs. ago. Now it's back and I've read every comment on this site . Tomorrow going to buy the Borax and peroxide . Wish me luck , I hope it works for her as it has for others !Thank you Ted . I'll let you know what happens . Sincerely Pat

  45. My dog is only losing fur around his eyes. I'm afraid to put this (or anything for that matter) on his face. Has anyone used this on their dogs face? The spots are literally just around his eyes. He had it as a puppy like this & I treated it orally with meds from the vet - but he became immune to it. The vet wanted to dip him but I know there has to be a better & safer way.

    2. Hi there! I'm from the Philippines and I rescue dogs with mange. Here's how I cure mange:
      1. Wash your dog with medicated/antibacterial soap.
      2. Make a garlic oil. See this link. http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Garlic-Oil (NOTE: I use virgin coconut oil but ordinary coconut oil will also help)
      3. Massage your dog with garlic oil everyday.

  46. Peroxide inhibits healing and other alters DNA, so keep that in mind!

  50. Do NOT give animal a bath for a while. The mange will spread. Use peroxide on a wet cloth and just wipe down. Try to keep animal contained, comfy and warm and away from other animals. Mange is very contagious to animals and cause human skin problems. So use rubber disposable gloves when handling animal and applying medicines. I have not used the oil, but this bath by Ted works.

  51. my dog is doing better than me now. Mine has gotten worse and gone to my neck. I again did the Permitherim creme for the third time now and felt like i was getting eaten alive after 12 hrs and then i know i kept it on too long 24 hrs but my pharm guy said its really not that bad for you. So i washed it off and then put some coconut creme with Victoria Secret oil for the body which equaled two parts in the bottle and then added the other third part of cold Pressed, 100% orgnanic neem seed oil to the rest and shook it and spread it all over my body including my scalp it just feels so good. They really did a number prior to this on my neck. I am washing my bedding and clothing daily and using borax, hot water and my regular gain detergent and then drying clothes in the dryer for 40 min on high and also i am spraying a fine mist of 1-3 % permithrin on everything including my car and also kusing my new puffer i got from Amazon to spread the Diatomaceous Food grade Earth in every place i go inclding where i sleep and the dogs pen and again my car. this is now gotten to be a daily routine and so far it has worked for my dog and i'm praying for me also. make sure you don't go near your eyes or mouth with the oil for me its like a nightmare cause the taste is nasty although i'm sure its not harmful to you. I know nothing about the FOOD GRADE Diatomaceous Earth can hurt you and yes its just as potent wet as it is dry so i also have been doing some spraying fine mist with that. Along with those things i am putting a full teaspoon onto some soft food everyday now i use those little Cesar wet snack and mix it in there good and he loves it cause he can't tell what he is eating, although Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade has no scent or taste to it but it is extremely drying. I have to drink more water to wash any toxins out of my body from those medication cremes permitherem but the Neem Oil is great and only has excellent benefits so i'm happy about that. I hope that this helps someone. The Ted's Borax and Peroxide Mixture is Excellent and cured my dog for sure. I am still doing that twice a week anyhow just to make sure cause of the egg situation and how they come back after 17-24 days of hatching. I will keep you guys up to date with my recovery and treatment. Please do the same with yours. Priscilla

  52. So my pup is getting a bald spot on her face under her eye to her nose.
It's gotten bigger over the week. I have 2 other dogs I have not noticed anything on them , and I haven't noticed any other bald spots on the pup so I'm assuming it's not contagious. For the past 2 days I have been squirting hydrogen peroxide on her face on the bald spot.. do you think that will help cure it? Or do I absolutely need to buy borox? I don't wanna give the dog a bath inside because I'm still worried to have the dog around my kids.

    1. I would never use HP on my dogs. Two reasons, it changes DNA and it inhibits healing. I'd take to a holistic vet. If thats a problem for you than i'd treat the dog from the inside and as a topical i'd put Castor Oil on it 2-3 times a day
